MAUNDY THURSDAY

WHAT IS MAUNDY THURSDAY?

Maundy Thursday is the Thursday one day before Good Friday. Maundy Thursday is the day when Jesus celebrated the Passover with his disciples which is also known as the Last Supper. Maundy Thursday is also known as Holy Thursday. Maundy Thursday has the significance for two events.

FIRST EVENT ON MAUNDY THURSDAY

Firstly, Jesus had and celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples and in so doing they instituted the Lord’s Supper, also called Communion. The reference can be found in “Luke 22:19-20”.

In memory of Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples, Christian churches observe a special Communion service on Maundy Thursday.
