QUEENS CENTER MALL SUICIDE – NEWS

A woman, in her mid-50s, jumped off the third floor of the Queens Center Mall about 3 PM on Wednesday which resulted in her death on the spot. She fell on the lower level of the shopping center in Elmhurst, four stories below.

She fell on a high school student injuring him on his head when the kid was walking on the floor. The kid was immediately taken to hospital.

People who were shopping there shrieked and ran. The police and the Queens district attorney, Richard A. Brown, got there quickly and helped calm the people.

The woman was accompanied by two teenagers.

A witness, Shanell Williams, at queens center mall suicide scene said that she was attending customers at the NYS Collection, a sunglasses kiosk on the second floor, she heard a loud bang. She further said:

“First I thought it was a gunshot, and I said ‘I’m out of here,’” Ms. Williams said. “People started screaming. There was pandemonium and chaos. And I looked below to the lower level and people were screaming that someone had jumped from above.”
