Strong earthquake hits northern Italy - News

An earthquake of the magnitude of 5.1 in jolted northern Italy on Tuesday close to the Parma city. It was followed some hours later by a smaller quake. According to the officials, nobody got injured.

Train services were temporarily intermittent on some lines. There was minor damage to some buildings and two churches.

Startled Italians jammed telephone lines after the initial quake at 4.25 p.m. That was unusually strong for northern Italy and was felt from the financial capital Milan to Florence to Trieste.
